OK, so I am adding another wood engraver craft to our 25 Days of Christmas, because the wood engraver is becoming one of my favorite craft tools. It’s so fun to use, and vamps up a LOT of those easy projects on my list. I used the engraver to make a plain old dollar store cutting board into a holiday cheese cutting board gift. Paired with a cute cheese knife I picked up in a pack of 4 from Target, it makes a cute gift you could give to really anybody, maybe even your Secret Santa!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Cutting board
- Wood engraver (I know, you probably don’t have one, but if you are interested, they aren’t too expensive if you wanted to get one. I happened to borrow my sister’s engraver for the past couple projects.)
- PLAN, PLAN, PLAN! Nothing says permanent like literally burning marks into wood. There’s no going back, so plan out ahead of time what design you would want to do. I took a pencil and lightly drew what I wanted right onto the wood.
- Start engraving. Depending on your engraver, you will have different attachments that will be more suited towards each type of design or line you are making. Some engravers even come with a couple of stamp attachments, so pretty! I engraved a large snowflake and stamped the word “Peace” right below. Pretty festive, right?
- Like any other gifts, it ends with the wrapping. I used a simple ribbon to add the finishing touched and attach the knife.
What do you think? Do you have any friends that would appreciate this present? Or would you make it for yourself? I want to keep one! If you do end up purchasing an engraver, let me know what you think, and what projects you would make with it. If you happen to be a pro already, send me over some tips! I am just getting started using it, but I know I will continue working with one.
Happy 8th day of Christmas! 17 days until Christmas!
